Up-cycle Lace Chandelier Pendant Kit Using Mod Podge Dimensional Magic

July 17, 2015 by judithjacob 4 Comments

Up-cycle Lace Chandelier Pendant Kit Using Mod Podge Dimensional Magic
Turn old lace curtains into stunning vintage style pendants.

You Will Need
One 50x35mm chandelier baroque pendant
Section of old lace curtain
Fine precision scissors
Head pin or wire
Mod Podge Dimensional Magic*

*We recommend Mod Podge Dimensional Magic (or even Rangers Glossy Accents) This project wouldn’t really work with Diamond Glaze as from personal experience Diamond Glaze tends to bubble and you run into problems when you start to layer it over 2mm. Also Mod Podge Dimensional Magic doesn’t really take long to dry. You can use the original Mod Podge Gloss but the Mod Podge Dimensional Magic seals the lace at the end with a smooth finish.

1. . Cut the lace into a generous rectangle that fits around the pendant (see picture below). On the back of the glass chandelier pendant apply a layer of Mod Podge Dimensional Magic. Push out any bubbles from the Dimensional Magic and lay the lace on top. Push the lace down, make sure the Dimensional Magic covers the back of the pendant (if it runs into the outside of the lace this ok as it makes the lace in the next step easier to cut). If the Dimensional Magic runs into the front of the glass pendant clean up with a damp cloth. Take the head pin and push through the hole the top of the pendant and the lace. Allow to dry flat.

2. When the Dimensional Magic is dry, remove the head pin and take your scissors and cut the lace to fit the pendant. When happy apply a layer of the Dimensional Magic to seal the lace and help stick down the lace if it lifted. Take the head pin and push through the hole the top of the pendant and let the Dimensional Magic dry.

3. When dry add to your jewellery designs.

A List of Our Altered Art Glass Tile Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials

A List of Our Altered Art Glass Tile Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials

We have been making glass tile jewellery for nearly 10 years (yep we where one of the first bead shops to write tutorials for magazines and bring the craft to the bead shows). When we first started the only two decent clear adhesive on the market Diamond Glaze and Mod Podge (which I still love as you can use it for so many things). Manufacturing caught on to the trend and a crop of new and improved clear adhesives hit the market with my personal favourite Mod Podge Dimensional Magic – 2 Ounces.

In a nutshell there are two main kinds of glass tile making where you get a glass tile and stick an image on it and then use a decorative surface for the back of the tile, glue a bail on. The other kind is where you use a glass cabochon (the glass has dome effect, slightly thinner) stick an image on and then mount the glass cabochon on a setting. The tutorials below (some on this site and some on our main website Beads Online) will take you through both techniques. Also if we make any more tutorials (which we will as that’s what we do) I will add them on – EnjoyXx

How To Make A Glass Tile Pendant Using Mod Podge

April 29, 2015 by judithjacob Leave a Comment

How to make a glass tile pendant using Mod Podge-Tutorial
You will need
Small Paint Brush
Fine tipped precision scissors
Mod Podge
Patterned paper*
Clear glass tile or cabochon
Matching setting

Most paper will work as long as the print doesn’t run when wet i.e jet ink paper is not suitable

1. Cut the paper to match the glass cabochon or tile. You can hold the glass cabochon firmly on the paper and with your scissors cut around the glass cabochon using it like a template. For this step you can also use a paper punch or alternatively you can trace around the cabochon with a pencil and cut inside the traced lines.

2. Use your paint brush and brush a thin layer of the Mod Podge on the glass cabochon or tile. Place the paper on the back. Using your fingers smooth out any air bubbles and make sure the Mod Podge is spread evenly. Use a clean cloth to clean any excess Mod Podge.

3. Allow to dry and glue the cabochon to the matching setting. You can use the Mod Podge or glue. It is important that the Mod Podge on the glass tile is dry before gluing to the setting. If not discoloring can occur.

Hand Knotting – Alternatives For Henrietta’s Gum Arabic

For your next pot hanger project try making this stylish Macramé hanger instead of using a metal or wooden ring. Even though its very easy to make I wouldn’t recommend this in your first project with Macramé as you need a good understanding on how the basic square knot works.
