DIY Hair Clip – Buzzy Bee

July 14, 2012 by judithjacob Leave a Comment

One of my favourite items that arrived this week was some filigree french hair barrettes. They are like a blank canvas to go crazy on. You can glue cameos, rhinestones and weave beads on them.

I have gone bee crazy lattely and currently my favourite colour is yellow. I created the glass cabochon using the image from our Paris printed college sheet. I then set the glass cabochon on a frame and glued it on the hair barrette with the small daisy cabochons. I then got some 26ga wire and secured one of the ends to the filigree then started weaving a mixture of Czech flower cups and 10mm & 17mm Lucite style beads.

Supplies are available from our online store www.beadsonline.com.au

Altered-art faceted cross

June 12, 2012 by judithjacob Leave a Comment

Altered-art faceted cross
Altered-art faceted cross

You will need
– Clear glass faceted cross
– Pictures (i.e photos, printed material anything on paper will work as long as the ink doesn’t run when wet)
– Small scissors
– Clear adhesive (Mod-Podge Dimensional Magic, Glossy Accents etc)
– Pen/pencil

1. Cut the image to fit the cross. Trace the cross with your pen and cut a 2-3mm inside your tracing. Trim to fit image behind the paper.

2. Take some adhesive and add a SMALL amount to the back of the pendant. Place the paper on the back. Using your fingers smooth out any air bubbles and make sure the adhesives is spread evenly. Use a clean cloth to clean any excess glaze

3. Allow to dry for a while. Take your pin and insert through the hole in the top of the pendant through the paper. Using your pin you may want to pierce a hole next to it. Take your your head pin and instate it through the hole. The reason you use a pin first is so you don’t tear the paper with the head pin. Using your paint brush a layer of the clear adhesive on the back of the pendant. Allow 24 hours to try. Remove head pin and now the pendant is ready to add to your designs.

The faboulous Rocky of Rocky Beads

January 23, 2012 by judithjacob Leave a Comment

I started following Rocky Beads on facebook shortly after her project appeared in January’s Australian Beading (you know the one with that amazing necklace design). I couldn’t believe my luck when she listed these stunning pair of earrings in her etsy store (which I gobbled up straight away). The earring are amazing. They have a handmade polymer clay cabochon as the feature. The cabochons have a folk art feel to it. And the colours are just amazing.

What I love about Rocky the most is that she has the most amazing blog. Full of ideas, beautiful jewellery and tutorials. How cute are these little Russian dolls (picture below). You can spend forever just admiring the small details.

A must visit is Rocky’s blog The Clayin’ Mommy (and bookmark it as she updates it regularly). You can also keep in touch via facebook and to buy her creations visit her etsy store.

Happy New Year 2012

January 1, 2012 by judithjacob Leave a Comment

Well, we have a whole new year ahead of us. And wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could all be a little more gentle with each other, a little more loving, and have a little more empathy…and maybe next year at this time we’d like each other a little bit more – Judy Garland

Hand Knotting – Alternatives For Henrietta’s Gum Arabic

When starting to make a knotted necklace using a nylon thread you need to harden the ends of the thread so it is easy to thread through beads. You then have the option to cut the harden ends in a point (like a needle). You can do this with Super Glue, Nail Polish or Henrietta’s […]

For your next pot hanger project try making this stylish Macramé hanger instead of using a metal or wooden ring. Even though its very easy to make I wouldn’t recommend this in your first project with Macramé as you need a good understanding on how the basic square knot works.
