Hand Knotting Using A Beading Awl

January 14, 2018 by judithjacob 2 Comments

STEP 1 After threading the bead create a loose simple knot.
STEP 2 Insert the tip of the beading awl into the knot.
STEP 3 Pull the longer section of cord so it pulls the beading awl towards the bead.
STEP 4 Keep pulling the longer section of cord until the beading awl sits on top of the bead.
STEP 5 While you are sliding the beading awl off using your fingers push the knot further down next to the bead.
STEP 6 Remove the beading awl and push the knot so it sits flushed next to the bead.

Hi Judith, how much did do you work with at a time – or how much did do you allow for the desired length of the necklace? I’m doing the lava stone diffuser chakra necklace from the kit and there is quite a lot of the cord in the kit – I’m guessing it’s best not to try to use the full length?!?

      Hi,
Cut 2 metres for the necklace. Tip place the skein on a chair or similar and wind around a card. It will stop the cord from knotting.

      I hope that helps Judith

For your next pot hanger project try making this stylish Macramé hanger instead of using a metal or wooden ring. Even though its very easy to make I wouldn’t recommend this in your first project with Macramé as you need a good understanding on how the basic square knot works.
