Basic Technique – Macrame Square Knot

September 10, 2017 by judithjacob Leave a Comment

STEP 1 Take four sections of cord. You will be working with the outer two cords with the two middle cords staying fixed.

STEP 2 Take the outer left blue cord and create a small loop placing it over the two middle cords.

STEP 3 Take the outer right purple cord and place it over the left blue cord.

STEP 4 Start to create your knot by taking the right purple cord under the middle cords.

STEP 5 Then take the right purple cord through the loop formed by the left blue cord.

STEP 6 Pull on the two outside cords to tighten and you have the first half of the square knot.

STEP 7 To make up the second half of the Square Knot you will repeat step 2 to 6 but working in the opposite direction.
Start with the outer right blue cord and create a small loop placing it over the two middle cords. Now take your outer left purple cord and place it over the right blue cord. Create your knot by taking the left purple cord and going under the middle cords and through the loop formed by the blue cord. Pull on the two outside cords to tighten. Now you have a completed square knot

For your next pot hanger project try making this stylish Macramé hanger instead of using a metal or wooden ring. Even though its very easy to make I wouldn’t recommend this in your first project with Macramé as you need a good understanding on how the basic square knot works.
