step by step
I love the symbolism of the tree of life – its roots (how they are earth bound), trunk (solid and strong) and branches (that represent growth and spread out and reach for the sky). This version incorporates a 40mm round Lapis Lazuli stone. I find Lapis Lazuli to be a very powerful gemstone it is said to to help wisdom, communication, peace, divine inspiration, inner truth and honesty.
Works best using Made in the USA brass filigree – we recommend Trinity Brass (we use to stock this brand until they made the decision to sell retail instead of just wholesale) and Vintage Jewellery Supply.
I love these little wire bird nest. You need a length of wire (22ga or 24ga) and three beads. Follow our step-by-step tutorial to learn how.
150cm 22ga wire
1 8mm jump ring
1 6mm jump ring
70cm ball chain
1 ball chain connector
1 head pin
1 4x6mm crystal
3 4mm turquoise/howlite beads
1. Take the 150cm of wire and thread the three 4mm turquoise/howlite beads on the wire placing them at the end. Wrap the end of the wire to the main wire securing the eggs.
2. Place the eggs between your fingers and wrap the wire around the beads until you have a 25cm tail left.
3. Secure the Wire Circles
Take the end of the wire under the beads and back over the circles of wire wrapping the circles once (Pic 3A). Bring the wire under the circles and to the other side through the beads and over the circles of wire, wrapping once again. Now bring the wire under the circles a third time through the beads and over the circles of wire. (Pic 3B) Repeat this step two times going over the three sections of wire wrapping the circles to create the nest (Pic 3C). Hide the end of the wire in the nest. Thread a 8mm jump ring through one of the wraps.
4. Finish by taking your round-nose pliers and messing the wire giving the nest a rustic look. (Pic 4)
5. Take one head pin and thread the 4x6mm rondelle bead. Trim 1cm from the bead and create a loop. Gently undo the loop and hand off the bottom hole of the bird connector. Take one 6mm jump ring and thread the top hole of the bird connector. Thread the 6mm jump ring and the 8mm jump ring attached to the bird on the 70cm section of ball chain. Close the chain with the connector.
