Technique

Step 1
Take 1 x 25mm eye pin and thread 1 x amethyst 6mm bicone. Trim 1cm from the last bead and form a loop. Take one chain maille ring and thread through the eye pin

Step 2
*Start your byzantine weave by taking two jump rings and thread them both through the previous chain maille ring. Take two more jump rings and thread the two previous jump rings. This is called a “2-2 chain”
**Hold the first two jump rings in the 2-2 chain between your thumb and forefinger. Now flip the top two end rings to the side. The tops of the jump ring attached to the eye pin are now on top. Open them slightly to reveal the bottom of the jump rings that where flipped to the side. Take one open ring and scoop through the jump rings that where open slightly and pick up the bottoms of the two ring that where flipped through the side. Close this ring. Take your beading awl and create a path to so you can thread a second ring through the same two rings. Create another 2-2 chain by threading two rings through the last two rings added in the previous step. Take two more jump rings and thread the two previous jump rings. Repeat from ** unitl your chain maille section measure approx. 2cm (see picture Step 2). On the last repetition only thread one jump ring in the final stage instead of two.

Step 3
Take 1 x 25mm eye pin and thread 1 x 6mm tanzanite bicone. Trim 1cm from the last bead and form a loop. Before closing the loop thread the last jump ring in the chain maille section.

Step 4
Take 1 x 50mm eye pin and thread 1 x 4mm amethyst bicone, 1 x oval amethyst bead and 1 x 4mm ameythst bicone. Trim 1cm from the bead and form loop. Repeat to form one more oval amethyst beaded connector.

Step 5
Take 2 x 25mm eye pin, 1 x 8mm amethyst bicone and 1 x 6mm tanzanite bicone. Place one bead on each eye pin. Trim each eye pin 1cm from the bead and form a loop.

Step 6
Using chain maille jump rings add the beaded connectors created in step 3 and 4 to the necklace in the following order: oval amethyst beaded connector, amethyst 8mm bicone beaded connector, oval amethyst beaded connector and tanzanite 6mm bicone beaded connector.

Step 7
Take one chain maille ring and attach to the other side of the tanzanite beaded connector. Repeat step 2 but instead make the byzantine weave chain measure approx. 6cm (adjust to suit).

Step 8
Repeat step 1 – 7 to create the other necklace strap.

Step 9
Take 1 x 50mm head pin and thread the amethyst tear drop. Bend the head pin at a 90 degree angle which sits on top of the tear drop bead. Hold the tear drop so bend in the head pin sit between the wings. Now secure in place by wrapping the head pin around the dragonfly stamping body.

Step 10
Take 1 x chain maille ring and attach the necklace strap to the dragonfly. Use the picture for placement. Take 1 more chain maille ring and attach one side of the clasp to the other side of the necklace strap. Repeat this step for the other side.
